Stere - 2021, reversal film
The project is inspired by the following, almost extinct, reality: in the living space of a certain type of individual (or in its proximity), there is a storage place, a storage room, a garage, a basement, etc., where objects are stored, no longer finding utility in the house, but which the owner cannot bear to discard. This mild form of Compulsive hoarding creates some cluttered spaces, some of them becoming true time capsules containing objects that can illustrate the evolution of a culture over several generations.
This agglomeration of objects gravitates around an active nucleus represented by the work bench and the "arsenal" of tools belonging to this character, placed at the intersection between homo faber and homo ludens. It's where the craftsman of the Comunist era solved DIY situations necessary for the household, but also hrere he was building things of questionable utility. Communities of neighbors were formed around these spaces, exchanges of experience took place, joint repair actions, small dramas related to loans of tools unreturned, innovations and even inventions were produced, etc.
In the urban space of the capital, the phenomenon is almost extinct, giving way to the modern type of DIY amateur, passionate about design, who makes his own furniture, is equipped with modern tools and has subscribtions to various thematic YouTube channels.
However, the old spaces continue to exist, more or less active, and in the present project I propose to document the ones to which I have access. There are two main reasons that led me to investigate this type of space: the cultural testimonies encapsulated by it, and the content of naive, unpremeditated and authentic creativity left by the anonymous craftsmen who populated it.
Anonymous opus manuum artificis.1 - the first episode of this research - exposes my father's workshop, the place where I first encountered this phenomenon.
