The series is a sort of an extended portrait of  Gicu Stanciu, a mechanic living in a small village in Transylvania. The objects produced by him, and brought to the exhibition, prove that Gicu Stanciu is not a simple mechanic, but an inventor concerned with solving practical problems that do not have practical solutions on the consumer market, one of which being the production of free energy.

What attracted me to the objects made by him is the fact that, beyond their practical function, they have potential to acquire artistic attributes. Some of them, such the attempts of perpetuum mobile, fail in their purpose because they try to violate laws of physics, such as the law of conservation of energy, but take the form of (involuntary) works of art, probably due to a consistent search for a function-form ratio. The most relevant example is probably the bicycle wheel, modified in an attempt to build a perpetuum mobile, which strikingly recalls Marcel Duchamp's famous Roue de bicyclette.

Gicu Stanciu generously allowed me to photograph his workshops as well as his several thousand square meter yard. They are spaces filled with objects that actually reflect the unlimited passion for mechanics, but also a spiritual side, most likely unsought, of the owner. Although the land is full of metal scraps, parts and wrecked cars - like a car graveyard - among which are scattered his recent inventions, the vines allowed to grow inside the house, between the windows and curtains, and the abundant vegetation that invades the ironworks, they make you feel in the middle of a personal paradise.

The photographs that I present at the Filipescu-Cesianu House are intended to introduce the viewer to the special atmosphere of the place and to provide a context for Gicu Stancu's objects, exhibited in the gallery.
